This poetry reading celebrates the publication of Kudzu, HCTC’s literary
magazine. The emcee for this event is poet, playwright, and swarper Jim
Webb. Writers who have poems in “Kudzu” will read and the guest poet is
Mitchell Douglas. Mitchell L. H. Douglas’ poetry appears in “Callaloo”,
“Crab Orchard Review” and the anthologies “The Ringing Ear: Black Poets Lean
South, America! What’s My Name?” and “Zoland Poetry Volume II”. He was
nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2006 and named a finalist for the Stan and
Tom Wick Poetry Prize in 2007. A founding member of the Affrilachian Poets,
Cave Canem Fellow, and Poetry Editor for “PLUCK!: the Journal of
Affrilachian Arts & Culture”, his debut collection, “Cooling Board”, is
forthcoming from Red Hen Press. Douglas will also lead three poetry writing
sessions at the 2009 Spring Writers Conference. The conference is May first
and will also have sessions lead by fiction writer Gurney Norman and horror
